There are about 30 volunteers including doctors, nurses & non-medical volunteers who actively assist in the management of patients in our home care program and to run the day care service on every Thursday at Rumah PCA. Volunteers are also involved in awareness & publicity acivities such as exhibition, educational programmes and other related services.
VOLUNTEER DOCTOR
To provide medical care for the palliative patient by making an assessment visit to the home of the patient as and when the needs arise.
Advising on pain and symptom control.
Providing emotional and psychological support for the patient and family members
To liaise closely with the nurse coordinators of the Home Care Program with regards to the home visits made.
To attend case conferences.
To promote the concept of palliative care by assisting in training and educational programs
VOLUNTEER NURSE
To provide emotional, psychological, social and spiritual support for the patient and family.
To assist in the management of pain and symptom control by working closely with the palliative care team.
To teach and supervise the primary carer on the basic nursing skills, e.g. bed bathing, mouth care, lifting techniques, etc.
To maintain contact with the patient and family by either a home/hospital visit/telephone call weekly.
To record the proceedings of the visit in the patient’s file, and to inform the nurse coordinator of the Home Care Program after each visit/phone contact.6.To attend case conferences.

NON-MEDICAL VOLUNTEER
To provide companionship to the patient and family members.
To assist in practical aspects, e.g. transportation, errands, etc.
To assist with patient’s care. e.g. feeding, personal hygiene.
To provide respite care for the primary carer.
To maintain contact with the patient and family weekly, to inform the nurse coordinator of the Home Care Program after each visit/telephone contact.
To attend case conferences.
To provide bereavement support.
To assist in administrative works, e.g. typing, mailing, computer works, etc.
To assist in the educational and training programs.
To provide complementary therapies, e.g. arts, massage, etc.
To assist with professional advice, e.g. legal matters, auditing, etc
